Older Adults
Dramatherapy helps the clients to share their story by expressing their feelings, setting goals, extending inner experience, and are given the opportunity to redefine themselves, to retrace or recover their old roles, and to try out new roles they may want to acquire.
Difficulties such as those listed above rarely occur in isolation; it can range from mild to moderate to profound, and may also have multiple difficulties.
The Dramatherapist draws on her awareness of the individual's background, and her knowledge of psychological and psychodynamic theories to respond to and work with each individual appropriately. Therefore the nature of the dramatherapeutic activities depends on the needs and severity of limitations of the people who participate in the therapy programme.
Those who attend dramatherapy sessions are encouraged to use drama and movement with sound and touch to explore their emotions, discover new insights and develop a greater understanding of how they relate to the world. Some sessions may involve physical contact, with the participant’s consent in a safe and respectful manner and will not be imposed upon or required by a participant.
